The Pitcher’s Mound

TWO THINGS

FIRST
Sometimes people will ask you this question.
Who Do You Want To Be?
Who Do You Aspire To Be?

Well, tonight, I had the honor of listening to Former Lady Laura Bush tell us her answer to that questions.
She said she would just like to be Laura Bush.
She figured she’s been her for so long,
Why be someone different now?

I feel like this is a very strong Who Will You Be? message that we all need to remember.
Just be ourselves and remember who we are and what values we hold.
We don’t need to be anybody else.

SECOND
When asked about how to best a great leader, Laura Bush said something along the lines of “I believe George would say to be a really good leader you have to know what you believe and lead people that way. And don’t look for popularity because popularity is fleeting. And most of you know that from high school. That’s what he would say.”

I believe this is very important. To stand FIRM in your beliefs because if you don’t, you’ll just end up following a crowd and THEIR beliefs; not making a difference.

She also told us a story of when her husband threw the first pitch to the world series in 2001.
She said she was so nervous for him (because of recent 9/11 attacks).
She was nervous, that he was up there on that pitcher’s mound, in the open, by himself.
With people watching him, some thinking he would bounce the ball.

My favorite piece of advice she gave us was with this visual of President Bush.

The advice was:
That we need to step up to our own pitcher’s mound.
Stand tall in our beliefs,
Face our fears,
Our doubters.
Because without you standing up,
(Even if you’re alone)
You are never going to make a change.

So I challenge you,
To step up to your pitcher’s mound.
And make a difference!

Until next time,
Megan
